Large circular crimson silk velvet ceremonial embroidery panel richly worked in silver and gilt thread with the crowned Napoleonic eagle within a laurel wreath.

History & Context

Large circular crimson silk velvet ceremonial embroidery panel richly worked in silver and gilt thread with the crowned Napoleonic eagle within a laurel wreath, traditionally identified by Bernard Chevallier as possibly originating from the throne furnishings used by Napoleon. Formerly in the collection of Edward Ryan, retired CIA Berlin station chief and noted Napoleonic collector.
