Sevres entree plate 1809
Pink diamond-patterned dinner service, with crown and N cypher removed by returning Bourbons.
The service was delivered on April 3, 1809, to the Palace of Compiègne, for the table of Grand Marshal the Duke of Friuli.

History & Context
The service was delivered on April 3, 1809 to the palace of Compiègne, for the table of the Grand Marshal the Duke of Frioul (Vbb2, fol. 93 and Vy18, fol. 77) and contained 144 plates instead of the 156 ordered.
Summer and autumn residence of Kings under the Ancien Régime, Compiègne became an imperial palace under Napoleon I who had it redeveloped from 1807. It was in Compiègne that the first meeting between Napoleon and Marie-Louise took place in 1810.
N.B.: On this example the N and imperial crown has been removed. On other examples it was replaced by the crown and cypher of Louis XVIII.
