A rare cream coloured faience serving plate by Mittenhoff and Mourot with crown and N cipher of Napoleon, made for the Maison de l’Empereur.

History & Context
An rare First Empire faïence serving platter by the Paris manufactory of Mittenhoff & Mourot, of oval form and decorated in black with the crowned imperial “N” cipher of Napoleon I, produced for official imperial household use during the reign of the Emperor, the austere yet elegant design reflecting the refined neo-classical taste of the late Empire and surviving as an evocative relic of the daily service of the Maison de l’Empereur.
